She sent me very strong (as in tough and critical) feedback today. It was really hard to take even though I can usually take hard feedback. The thing that added salt to injury is that she suggested 2 co-authors that did not contribute to the paper. They are of course part of my old team. I was with them 5 years and it is only recently that they added my name on a symposia. They helped to collect the data like everyone, but did not help me with this paper. I find this to be a very political game. I want to let go, to not hold things against anyone, but the truth is that some people get favored for very subjective things. One of these 2 proposed co-authors almost always gave me the run around and hasn't been helpful. Yet, she is working for the old advisor, so I have no choice but to add both of them on. The dude aside, I want to have a career and to research the things I would like to research. What you wrote is encouraging because it helps me to hear that there is only 1 year left. Today, I believe my boss interviewed someone to replace me. Lots of things are going on. I really want to be happy, for someone to appreciate me.
